Discounts

Had a very quick test drive yesterday - wasn't disappointed at all !!

Has anyone had any luck on negotiating any discounts (or free extras, such as mats or a full size spare) yet ? I recall seeing a post saying Autobytel were offering a discount, but I can't see this on their site.

Thanks

BG

has anyone had any personal experience of using uk-car-discounts ?

Is the car sourced from a main dealer ?

If I were you I'd spend my time getting a decent dealer, it would be far more use than saving a grand on the price of the car.

Thanks Pelyma - I think you're right - good advice.

It's too easy to focus on the immediate cost rather than the overall owning experience.

Back to my original question... Has anyone managed to get any extras thrown in, or is it list price all the way ?

Am I going to get laughed out of the showroom for suggesting such a thing?

It's never been an issue before - all of my previous new cars have been company ones !

Thanks

BG

I managed a set of mats and a loan car if my car is delayed, this took some doing!

If you don't ask you don't get Laughing

Find a good dealer, if the one you choose is good on sales but you find it not so hot on aftersales, just take your business elsewhere!

I'll second that. A good dealer will save you much pain with any potential niggles a new model may have.

Those with good dealers - customer service, training or both - with a D3 from the first build have been far happier than those without.

its no surprise a dealer wont give a discount over the phone but it would be a different story if you visit him with cash, QUERCUS achieved 5%

I agree completely with you Simon. Of all the LR owners i know in my limted circle, there are 2 types: generally happy, and generally unhappy. It seems to be a function of the quality of the dealership in almost every case. I am lucky to have found a top notch dealer and so i know i can relax about any potential problems in the days ahead.

I would be very surprised by the way if anyone was willing to discount at this early stage.

LR has clearly positioned this model as highly competitive with its peers and should stick to their price guns as much as possible IMO.

I just did a comparison of the FL2 spec sheet with 4 other vehicles in the N Am market and the results were very interesting. It was not very scientific but I simply compared each line item in the specifications and gave a point to the vehicle that had the best spec. I did not attach a weighting to any category so things like "genuine wood vs plastic" was weighted equally with price but still, the results were interesting.

I compared the (top models in every case) FL2 (i6 HSE) with the new X3, new CRV, Acura RDX, and the new Ford Escape. Here were the results just adding up the points for each car:

LR2: 36 points
X3: 21 points
CRV: 10 points
RDX: 10 points
Escape: 7 points

LR 2 took the lead by a large margin. To me, this means that LR has spec'd this very aggressively against its competitors and is delivering real value for the money. With this in mind I am sure they do not want to get into a bidding war with competition. Especially considering that this thing just went on sale last week!

ditto the D3 / LR3

Compared to the others in the market there are very few (korean mostly) that can match the style, technology (Terrain Response, Air Suspension etc) and brand for anywhere near the price.

My last ride was an Audi A4 2.5TDi Quattro Spprt Avant... very nice indeed... but cost only 3K less than the D3 Shocked
