This lag was killing me ever since I have my FL2. The dealer is trying to convince me everything is OK. Changing gears up always feels like the car is pecking the road!
Even harvester would accelerate smoother!

Huh Question the turbo won't be operational when you're stationary, what your're feeling is the delay whilst the gearbox choses the right gear. ______________________

As Dave says, you need to get the turbo spinning at standstill - left foot on the brake, right foot on the gas up to about 2000rpm then release the brake and 'werhay - off we jolly well go...... Shocked
Only done it a couple of times but quite impressive Laughing

FL2 TD4 will be a marked contrast to your previous RX8. As others have posted, there's not a great deal of pull at very low engine speeds, but it builds nicely from around 1,500 rpm and from 2,000 to 3,000 I reckon it's doing its best work, without burning too much juice. In my opinion, there's little merit in taking it much above 3,500 - 4,000 rpm, even if you want to make swift progress. Having said that, I do give mine a quick blast up to 4,000 - 4,500 rpm each week (once the engine is fully warm). Not sure whether my theory is based on solid science or gut feel, but I like to think it helps to stop the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve from gumming up and also gives the variable geometry/nozzle turbo a bit of a work out. Glad that there's no particlulate filter on the pre-facelift model - one less thing to go wrong!!

I very rarely exceed 2000rpm except in 6th on the motorway. It will drive happily in most gears from 1000 rpm and accelerate from 1500. Needs higher revs with wife in passenger seat!
I don't notice the ecu problem when changing gear normally, but I've noticed it doesn't like double declutching - maybe due to the ecu problem. If you have the silly particuate filter thingy you will need to up the revs occasionally to clean it.

I'm with past master, although I don't drive as low as 1000 rpm, but our auto hardly ever goes over 2000, unless I'm towing or overtaking Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

The auto courtesy cars we have had go much better than the manual we own.

If only our authorised LR dealer actually gave out FL2s as courtesy cars! Took ours in last week for a service and was provided with a Mondeo for the day - complete with large letters on the side stating that it was a Land Rover courtesy car!!!

Wonder whether you still get a Mondeo if you take a RR in for a service?!

Possibly not quite on topic, but certainly close enough, if you want to find out how to drive your Freelander then go on the Land Rover driving experience.
I did the half day freebie that I got from my dealer yesterday at the Dunkeld centre and I have to say I am amazed at what my car can do. Apart from a couple of sections that required more ground clearance, the Freelander did everything the Disco the RR and RRS did. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
I am highly unlikely to use it in the same rough terrain as they have on the course, but at least I now know what it can do. Surprised
The car we used was 6 months old and is due to be replaced soon with a 190bhp and while I expect that the current car will have been very well maintained I was still encouraged by the lack of squeaks, rattles or other annoying noises despite it being driven in fairly extreme conditions virtually every day.
