I never listen to the radio in my HSE so can't comment but the cd quality in my oppinion is very good. The phone integration is rubbish in mine though - sounds like a 1920's 78 record with all the crackles. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I found that! The CD sounds great and the radio sounds like a 1930's radiogram

I have to agree_ the sound quality is terrible in my SE and my mates HSE is just as bad_ except with a sub that is totally out of sync.

So far the best result i have had is to set turn the equaliser on, on my ipod and plug it into the AUX port_ I still have to add bass and reduce the treble on the head unit. Its still not fantastic_ but this from what i'm told this demos that the problem is not necessarily with the head unit_ because there is no distortion.

Realistically the sound should be good without even adjusting the bass and treble on the head unit_ adding the equaliser and adjusting every setting is really only compensating for crap speakers.

I would be interested to know what you do from here_

I know that this is subjective, but I have been very impressed with the stereo in the car as have most people that have driven in it. When I got it the level had been set by a bass numpty, but now they are to my taste it is spot on.

If I have any complaints, the sibilance is a bit obtrusive if the treble is set too high. The Subwoofer can have a field day if that is set high, also there is no way of setting the crossover, is there??

Radio in the UK is fine, at least the analogue signal, no DAB for me... yet..
. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Mine is good on FM and better on DAB. National stations are better on DAB than local stations, which suffer from weak signals around my area. The sound quality really comes to life when using CD's or my iPod with 'Dolby Surround' selected which I don't think can be selected when listening to the radio.

HSE:
The AUX from mine sounded crappy and now no longer works. I suspect loose wiring but haven't had the time to take it back to get looked at. Radio (esp AM) is terrible - I suspct the tinting film has impacted. Again, because dealer-fitted I'll need to get that looked at too. The CD player sounds great though, although the subby maxes out too soon IMO.
