I am going to Switzerland next week and a little worried I'm not going to make it due to the current fuel shortages in France. I am fairly confident that I will be able to get a full tank to start with but after that I don't know what the journey will hold. My journey from home (almost West coast of France) to the Swiss border is 600km's. Will I make it? Apologies if my question seems a bit stupid but not had the chance to drive from a full tank before.

edit: just to add it is a 2007 Td4 auto.

Even with my lead foot, cruising at around 80mph I can get 450 miles per tank - 31.5mpg
This equates to 700+ kilometers per tank at 130kph in a 2008 auto with empty roof rack.

My advice is to take a filled 20 litres in a jerry can, you will not need it but it will make the journey more pleasurable by having one less thing to worry about. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Of course it will depend on which FR/CH border crossing you are going to use, but for example, from your place to Geneva is approximately 500kms - that's within easy range of a TD4 FL2. Her ladyship's will every time do over 800kms before any fuel warning light appears.

Also I don't know your preferred route, but I'd suggest avoiding getting near Lyon as that locality is always in my experience the subject of slow moving traffic and long tailbacks which would of course feast on your fuel supplies. Here in Switzerland we have no fuel shortages or closed forecourts. Diesel is today CHF1.72 per litre.

So my advice is to set off with a completely full tank of diesel (if you can get the fuel) and when you leave CH do the same again, that way you should have no difficulty getting there n back. Finally, have a safe and pleasant drive, the mountains are are covered in snow - well those outside my study window are.

edit: fuel range is a TD4-e Maunal

French TF2 TV station news stated that of the 11 refineries all have now been cleared of pickets and 5 are already back in production. Fuel supplies are being recommenced, but 2,118 petrol stations are still without fuel. French government spokesman said that he expects all petrol stations to have normal supplies by the weekend.

(I think that's wishful thinking as Thursday is a planned major day of protests, however opinion polls show that the pendulum has swung in favour of the French government - it seems your average French citizen doesn't like no fuel for their 2CV and filthy stinking rubbish filled streets of Marseille)

Why dont you buy a caravan, strip it out, block up all the vents / holes and fill it full of diesel?
