MY = Model Year. This is a manufacturers term nothing to do with vehicle registration. Model year is used each time there is an upgrade to a vehicle. When worked with Ford 1/2 and 1/4 were often used in official technical documents when mechanical, software or some othes upgrade took place. A new colour may be advised as

We also use 1/4 and 1/2 in the run-up to a new model. For intstance, the car I drive is a 10.75my! |

To continue James' post, the 10th character continues to define as: A = 10 MY B = 11 MY C = 12 MY etc... A model year is NOT a calendar year as it can be longer than 12 months. In theory as long as there is no more than 1 1st Jan, a model year could conceivably cover 1 year, 363 days... |
