One of the freelanders i'm looking at buying has a black plastic side strip along the doors. I was just wondering why this one has it and others dont, was it an optional extra or does it indicate some sort of spec pack?
Also does anyone know if it can be removed without damaging the paint work.

If you look at my gallery you will see I have them on mine, they are an option which I fitted on mine to stop the B :censored:ds in car parks opening there doors on to yours. They are fixed on with 3m tape and should come off if you heat them up with an hair dryer the tape is on the edges about 4mm wide. Personally I think they are worth it to save the damage but if it were not for people who don't give a f about others property I would not have them.

I have also had the door protection strips fitted as an option later, but not only for preventing dings from other car doors, but also as protection from my own garage wall . They are worth having and certainly do not look out of place once you have got used to the difference in appearance. Some have even had them painted, but this really defeats the object.

It would be worth checking first to see if they are removable as to my knowlege nobody has done this. The hair dryer thing that ad remarked is used for sealing them in place when mounting. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Strange on one side, not the other. Beware the door that doesn't, hasn't had a prang and thats why it aint there. I cant see it dropping off. The double sided tape is like superglue.

I have them too. They aren't that expensive and are straightforward to fit, so you could always go for the one without and fit them later if you want. Just a thought. I got them on mine as I have had so many cars scratched by careless 's in car parks. Gives a little protection at least.

No, shopping for an outfit for a friends wedding that I don't want to go to.

She takes the Disco and raises the air suspension, so people cant dink the doors. Then needs a step ladder to get out. The FL normally doesn't get taken, it's her baby and apparently doesnt like bad weather, mud or birds crap, so hence no need for the side strips.

Sorry, quickly written post should have been more clear. Although I would definitely steer clear of a car with side strips on only one side!!

I have to say I'm not a fan and its putting me off this particular vehicle, but the rest of the deal seems so good.

I had the side strips put on my freely at new and wouldn't be without them if only as they protect the car from the supermarket car park which IMO is far more dangerous than any off road track. I am assured that they will come off if done properly and my suggestion would be that if the rest of the car was what you wanted then maybe the garage will take them off as part of the deal. Its not your issue then! Ralph

If Marvo is out there could you give details where you purchsed your side protection rails and did they come with instructions.

I tracked this post down because I noticed Marvo not only has the great Caspian Blue (Like Me!!) but also his photos show a before and after of both side protection and roof rails. Both of which I am considering.
