Making a bluetooth call whilst parked up?

I wanted to hold a telephone call today whilst parked up in a car park, but i could not find a way to get the phone to BT sync to the car radio ( Alpine audio without the nav display 2010 MY ). My key was docked and the radio was working as a radio. Is there a special process / sequence i should have done to get the radio to sync up with Blackberry Bold 9000 for a parked up static, no engine running mode? Once the car was started it was no problem, but the BT pairing drops when i turn the engine off.
Thx,
Nigel

Do i then need to sit there for the duration of the call ( 1hr ) with my ignition switched on and all the warnings lights showing up?
In my other cars i had an ignition position 1 switch. is there no such position on a FL2?
