United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Fuji White
newbie

Hi folks!!

I'm looking to get a TD4 FL2 very soon. I have been lurking for a while and thought I'd just say hello. HELLO Thumbs Up

I can't decide whether to get a XS or SE spec. I don't usually go for built in satnav but it looks really good on the console and I haven't seen a model without one yet. Does anyone have any pics?

I test drove a HSE model and it was very plush but unfortunately my budget won't stretch that far!! When I asked what the service intervals were the dealer didn't sound too sure. It doesn't say in the brochure either so is it every 12 months/15k miles?

everyone here seems friendly and hopefully I'll be a legit member soon Cool

Joe

Hi Joe

Welcome!

The satnav is very good - the only drawback is the lack of speed camera locations !
The service interval is 12 months or 15K miles.
Check out avtur's gallery - I'm sure he's posted some interior piccies of the console without the satnav screen.
Whichever model you go for, I'm sure you'll be happy.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Izmir Blue

hi
i have an xs td4 auto.
all of 1 week old.
no sat nav as my wife likes the smartnav / traffic master system that is linked to those blue cameras by the side of the road, i did test drive an hse model and the sat nav looked pretty good.
we have an empty storage type cubby where the screen was , which is useful as there does seem to be a shortage of readily accessible storage areas around the dash.
decided by the time you specced up the car with auto/leather/winter pack etc it would have been expensive with the se option. toothdoc

Thanks for the advice, I'll check that gallery.

It's the speed camers functionality that I'd miss most and what I like about the TomTom, Nuvi etc. I've had relatively fast cars before and unfortunately my licence is testament to that Embarassed

I'll pop along to a local dealer to see if the have a XS on the forecourt.

cheers

The FL2 sat nav has the TMC link option - you should have seen Yorkshire in the last few days - it was a rash of yellow and red arrows and stars! But, you`re right, no speed camera links. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

I've got an XS and my TomTom 710 is a really good fit in the factory nav cubby hole.
Loads cheaper than factory nav too........

If you take a look at my gallery pictures you'll see how the TomTom Go 300 fits in the cubby, just to give you an idea.....

Hi Joe1978, I've been lucky enough or not to get the HSE, yes it has the gadgets but as you say at a price Big Cry ...I'm still trying to convince myself the higher spec was worth it Confused Rolling with laughter . Gave my old TomTom to the wife. What I would say is if you can get the auto many, many forum members say it is better than the manual, but when I got mine only the manual was available, but I am changing to the auto in Sept Thumbs Up

One thing I noticed with the Tom Tom was it would sometimes take 2-3 minutes to get a satellite link so you were driving blind to start with, or in tree lined lanes or heavy clouds Rolling Eyes . With the in-built system it is immediate directions, no delay, but the speed cameras would help I agree. The way the roads are now though, and PC plod hiding in bushes, it pays to stick to the speed limits; as my experience is you only save a few minutes anyway.....plod always catches you when you are doing 90mph for 15 seconds when the traffic allows...so don't buy a fast fast car buy a nice car...an FL2 fits the bill nicely. Get the best spec you you can afford, benefit of the inbuilt satnav is it won't get nicked, it looks neat and you can get going straight away Thumbs Up

Ta avtur, it is a good fit! Have you hard-wired it?

Carlfraz, I usually go for the best spec I can afford too. Means spending less on additional options that you don't get back at resale time. Crying or Very sad
I've never owned an auto, wouldn't want to become a lazy driver Rolling Eyes .
I fully get what you mean about speed. I must be getting old (29) as I prefer a realxing cruise at 70ish to battering it at 90 and unless it's a really long mway journey you do make hardly any improvement in time.
Then again my brush with plod was during an overtaking manouver(sp) so speed trap notice probably wouldn't have helped then anyway.

I might have a go in an auto, the salesman who took me out on the test drive said he prefered it too.

Thanks for all the advice friendly folk!!!

Joe

Going to stratstone in durham tommorow to have another good look around the FL2, speccing it should be fun but it's such a hard choice. Twisted Evil

Hi

My budget would only stretch to a GS or XS and I was worried car would look odd without sat nav but it is fine and does give much needed storage. Went for the GS in the end as did not feel XS offered enough for the extra outlay.

No have not hard wired the TomTom, guess a power cable could be run up to the cubby hole, but I haven't been inclined to do that!! I've got a GS and think its good value for money, as 'radney1303' says I didn't feel the XS offered enough extra (of what I wanted) for the extra money.
