I'm sure that it is good, but 175 bhp from standard is about a 11 or 12% increase and a 10% increase in torque. I would have thought that they could get more than that out of it... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again... |

Some people have had transmission issues with higher power outputs, better to be safe than sorry, and JE are specialist LR tuners, making their reputation important. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

There's a few companies that do the tuning box like you describe, however, general tuners tend to go for all out power figures, whereas I can almost guarantee that JE would make a more useable map. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I am sure that their reputation is spot on and very well deserved. What concerns me is that if these guys are the best at what they do with Land Rover, then the Bluefin etc of the world that take the power up to 190 bhp are going to destroy engines wholesale. An increase of 10% in torque is not really going to make enough difference to credit either the increase in acceleration, 50-70 in 8 ish rather than 9 ish seconds and the increase in insurance. I guess that I was spoiled by the chip tune that I did on my 1 series that took it from 163 to 200 bhp and nothing else changed!! The Smax chip tune was a complete disaster, basically the Dual mass flywheel couldn't handle the power increase and the car intended to shake itself to bits! (Took it off) Soooo. If the experts are saying 10% is the best we can do, what is the point.... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again... |

I wouldn't say a below 10% increase in power is a usable map....more like a waste of money.

Also thinking about the new SD4 (if that's it's official name), this is going to be 194BHP.

I think Big Dave has got it about right The Freel2 JE tune was developed in Germany by JE Deutschland and is designed to be ultimately safe, even with long periods of autobhan cruising. At JE(UK) it was felt safer to err on the cautious side and adopt the German version of the tune rather than go for the "British Mark 1" version. Maybe it's a bit too conservative, but the Freel2 is no sports car or likely to be used as such. Big figures also apply to the cost of repairs as well as optimistic power outputs from "tuners"!
