i6 New Engine?

I have just put my wifes LR2 i6 HSE in for its 100K service (the last free parts and labour one!!), luckily got it in at 98K. The dealer has said that there was a rattling at idle. They have checked again after flushing and re-filling the oil and the rattle is worse. On checking the original oil they have told me they have found significant metal deposits!

They are talking to LR UK for authority to exchange the engine or at least the bottom end!!

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation with the i6 engine? The car has done 98k of motorway steady driving and has been serviced very 10K. Just glad that the service guys here in Dubai are doing their job correctly, supposedly the extended warranty is to 250k but unlike the existing 100k warranty is 'Total Care' insurance based.
Many thanks

I doubt you'll find a British i6 that has that many km's on the clock!

Take a new engine if they offer it, being 3 years old I'm sure if there was a slight issue with them they would have re-called them, and altered whichever part.

I haven't heard of horror stories from other cars that use a variant of the i6 though so you should be ok when they change the relevant bits. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
Family's: 2009 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto, Stornoway
