I had my first service last week at a main dealer at just over 8000mls.

I don't imagine that an overfill nowadays would cause as much damage as say 20 - 30 years ago, but to me it's just basic stuff..........if it takes 5L you put 5L in, and not 5.5L.

An oil dipstick is only a guage for the oil amount in your engine. Your car should be sat on level ground & idealy cold when you dip it. You should first take it out, wipe it and redip for your level.

yes, what happens is the crankshaft/big ends hit the oil and cause it to foam so that it cannot do it's job of lubricating the engine.

Oh yes he keept on filling untill it came out of the rocker cover filler, then he called me If you imagine your crankshaft running through 5 main bearings and the four conrods "conecting rods if you like" connected to the crankshaft via the big end bearings then all running trying to push and pull the pistons but each one crashing into a sea of oil. Not going to work for long is it, BIG DAMAGE VERY SOON. |

I hope that both of you are kidding, right? About the fact that more oil will translate in a higher oil pressure at higher engine RPM... The pressure in the oil circuit is given only by the pump output and not by the oil level... For example if you aspire water from a lake with a pump and the lake level is rising this mean that you can aspire/pump more water? No. The debit of the pump will be the same. For each and any RPM. |

Alex, the engine is designed to operate with so much oil, if have too much oil in the system it must result in increased pressure which will damage seals, etc unlike a lake with a pump the engine is a sealed system, (although there is a breather) and although the pressure through the oil pump may remain the same, there will be an increase in the overall pressure in the crankcase..........................simples Iain |

Also if the oil level is high then the crankshaft could hit the oil when it rotates splashing oil everywhere, again engine is not designed for this and could leak from somewhere.
