Automatic transmission fault on traffic jams

Hi,
I own a Freelander 2 SE 190 HP, automatic transmission.
Ever since I bought the car I noticed that after the engine warms up quite well, like going in traffic bar to bar, for more than half an hour, when moving the car it gives some pretty big shocks sometimes, it's like when you drive with manual without pushing the clutch and your engine dies, but it keeps going.
I found that it recovers when I get out of traffic and it gets cold, or when I change the driving module. (although I don't know what is the connection).
A few days ago trying to avoid this situation, I preferred to go on manual and I noticed that it gives me those shocks because it stays in 2nd gear when I stop and does not go into first gear when I leave at the green traffic light.
It is not an extremely annoying situation because it is not used daily, it does not always do so and I avoid traffic jams, but I would not want it to get worse.
Has anyone had this problems?
If so, how was it resolved?

I'm not the best perhaps to answer your query but could this be an issue with the software? Mines a 63 reg auto and had issues with the car jerking forward when pulling away after being held in drive in traffic; believe it's a common problem? Try the forum search facility

If you are using Command Shift, it will stay in 2nd gear when you stop. See this extract from the Owner's Handbook.


As an aside, I had very similar symptoms with an automatic Volvo that turned out to be caused by a bad main earth lead to the battery. The earth connections of FL2s does appear to be a weak point so perhaps worth adding an additional earth lead? See this thread for more info - https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic16694.html

Thaks guys for giving me the information, someone else told me that could a software bug.
But i will search to see what useful information i can find here.

As Sidthecat has suggested above, it's a hardware problem, solved (or better said masked) by a software update.
