LR Roof Rails Fitting On 2007 Model

Recently bought a 2007 LR2 as an ex-company car. The previous owners had roof rails and a tow bar fitted but had removed them to put on his new LR2.

I bought some genuine LR roof rails from Hunters Land Rover on ebay.

Fast delivery, well packaged, nice quality parts... But they didn't fit.

The roof has three captive nuts on each side with 10mm threads. At the front an adaptor piece is provided that nicely screws into the 10m hole ready to accept the short 6mm screw provided with the kit. The centre and rear mounts are supplied with more 6mm screws, but longer. In my case they were not long enough and the wrong thread size.

I called the supplying dealer and spoke to one of the fitters in the workshop, but they had never experienced this problem.

In the end I solved it by buying some stainless button headed bolts 50mm long with 10mm thread and using ss washers to get the right spacing to the bars. The rear holes in the bars had to be filed to get the 10mm bolts through. But it now fits perfectly.

Maybe LR changed from 10mm captive nuts to 6mm at some early stage?

Or maybe I missed something - but they fit which is the main thing.

Posted here in case anyone else has the same issue.
