What i like about FL2 and dislike

Four weeks of ownership and i must admit i love my FL2!

What's good,
The MPG has taken me by suprise. I was expecting low 30's or even worse (man box) and i didn't really care. But i'm still getting low to mid 40's, i can get high 30's but only by hard driving. A big plus.
The ride on the road is excellent for a big vehicle, quiet, smooth, some roll around corners but not excessive.
Tried HDC and GRC and both work well.
Auto wipe is very good once you've dialled in the correct sensitivity.
Footbrake is superb.
Decent sound system but short on features.
Sounds silly, but so easy to get in and out of the car!
Terrain Response - used it twice off road but only on loose stuff, but that's all i need! Dunno about snow yet!!
Poise- looks the bizz!
Great driving position, can see over hedges, typical of all L/R's
Electric pre heater, a real boon in the winter.
Great headlamps!
Made in England!!!

What i dislike,
Aircon is not as good as some cars i've owned in the past
I have to wear my reading glasses on my nose to read mph. most annoying.
Clutch design is a bit worrying, self adjustment seems a bit odd.
No direct USB/iPOD to radio head unit. It should have one!
Crap handbrake. No excuses for this. Bad design.
Locking wheel nuts are poor quality and prone to rust.
Gearbox a bit notchy.

But the likes outweigh the dislikes. A really lovely motor car!!

If I can hijack your thread. I agree with what you say about the pro's and cons. I have the auto and I am very pleased to date. MPG mid to low 30's though.

My biggest gripe to date is the wind deflector on the sun roof. It's essentially a mosquito net and hence captures every known flying insect. I now keep the roof closed. Shame. Also the tail gate boot plinth is horrible cheap plastic!

I think most of our gripes will be sorted on the impending refresh...... 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

a damp cloth will soon shift those dead critters!

Its suprising how effective the wind deflector is, next time you are out with the sunroof open, gently push the deflector down and prepare to be deafened by how noisy it is without it Thumbs Up

I think that's intentional - otherwise they'd be in the car?

its not the prettiest of sunroofs when open, due to the fly net

but i think it also plays a part in deflecting wind off the opened glass section, to stop it been ripped off

Is there any MAX speed you should do with the roof open, occassionally i like all windows and roof open to give the car a good airing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yup, without the net the buffeting in the cabin is 'orrible. But it's the first car I've had with a net and seems a stupid idea. fl2maker, can you track the designer down for me a tell him he/she must try harder! 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

Without appearing to thick, what is GRC and how does the self adjusting clutch work. Confused

GRC =Gradiant Release Control

if your going up and stop on a steep slope (IIRC 20%+) and with HDC (Hill Desent Control) already activated, the car pause the brake release a little to allow less roll back when you take your foot off the brake

regarding the clutch.... erm arh, not sure there myself Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The clutch adjuster has a series of 'noches' which, as the clutch wears, the adjustment automatically moves onto the next notch. I hope it works okay or else the clutch will start slipping. To be quite honest i prefer good old fashioned manual adjustment. At least i know it works!

The flynet on the sunroof is an excellent design which works very well. The caught bugs can be vacuumed away every time you do the interior Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

An important item would be a canister of the foulest smelling gas rigged to a dash button which would let you deploy the said foul smell out the exhaust straight into the ventilation system of these --- drivers who sit inches from rear bumper. Mr. Green Mr. Green All FL2's (3) Gone

Good point, well presented. Seems to be more and more bumber hugging c Censored s on the road these days, regardless of speed. Off topic, I know, but I like a good rant Whistle Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass
