LR2 2008/2007 Confusion

I've checked with the local dealer in Kuwait about the LR2. According to them there is no such thing as a LR2 2008 model globally (Valued at: USD 38,181) However when I check the reviews, they all mention the 2008 model.

So now Im confused, is there a 2008 model?

Cause Im not keen on purchasing a 2007 model at the value of a 2008 model.

No, there is just the 2007 model. That said, the U.S. salesmen have cunningly invented the newer-than-new model and have started calling the most recent car the 2008 model. All reference to 2008 models is americanism... 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6

It seems to be a term for the US market model. So all the US sourced infor will refer to the 2008 model while the rest of us are on the 2007 Model

Model year

After the production stop for summer holydays the production for the new model year is started. That's not only for LR. All cars (and bicycles etc.) with a production date August 2007 and later will be in accordance with 2008 specifications.
The question is what the differences will be for LR2 in the new model year. At least the computer will be programmed in accordance with the latest knowledge. And I hope some improvements will have taken place in the "hardware" as well. In case of any news please let us all know!
Somewhere in Q4/2007 I will take the decision either to go for the Freelander 2 or the new VW Tiguan:

Production of D3 and RRS 2008 model year started on 1st May in the UK! So any new factory order for them is a 2008 car but there are some very odd spec cars coming onstream at the moment - sort of run out 2007 cars with the bits of 2008 model year where stock ran out at 2007 MY price. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen
Defender 90 County HT in Epsom Green

Rob

Personally, I can't be doing with "soft curvy" 4x4s. 4x4s should look the biz, and for me that means straight lines and strong angles.

Netherlands

In my opinion the Freelander 2 looks much better than the VW Tiguan. Thats a fact.
But both FL2 and the new VW do have very fine diesel engines. Both have Haldex four wheel drive.

Reason for me for considering the Tiguan is the excelent experience I have with two Passat diesel cars in 360,000 km. And an average fuel consumption of 6 liter diesel in 100 km only (= 40 US MPG = 47 Imp. MPG). In the Netherlands the FL2 of my choise will cost Euro 54k manual shift, the Tiguan in the same execution will be about 44k including DSG (a very fine automatic shift). Fuel consumption of the FL2 will be 15% above the VW Tiguan. Same as the road tax and insurance. The FL2 has got maintenance cost approx. 30% above the VW (at least here in the NL).
Rationally I should decide for the Tiguan... It will suit my needs (and more than that I'm sure).

But the FL2 looks Censored cool!!! And it seems the problems I read about in this forum are solved or will be solved by LR in a proper way. So emotionally I do prefer the Freelander.
The hell with the higher cost per driven kilometer... Rolling Eyes

As soon as the Tiguan is introduced I will start negotiations with the dealers of both brands.
At least my FL2 will have the model 2008 improvements included.

Rob VW Tiguan or Freelander 2 that's the question...

Mexico 2013 LR2 2.0T HSE Lux Auto Havana

I have seen my LR2 at the dealership in Mexico. I am waiting, to take it on September. I place my money input in my last trip to Mexico during May, just to hold that LR2, because I wan a Tambora, and may not be longer available on September. The registration number (serial number VIN) is coded as 2008 (XXX 8A XXX). So; in North America market are 2008 MY. Yuri
