2wd and 4wd LRX

According to Autocar lrx has a 2wd version in addition to 4wd.

Good!

At least those that want to go off-road can go off-road and those that want to look-as-if-they-could-but-couldn't give-a-fig-whether-they-can-or-not may own a LRX without the fuel consumption/tax penalty

If I've put this in the wrong place will a mod move it?

As a LR fan I think its disgusting and dilutes the LR brand to something it really shouldn't be and completely goes against the brands heritage. I know alot of people on here will disagree with me but thats how I feel.

However I do realise that from a business point of view they are only trying to stay profitable and obviously feel this is the way to do it. AF51 ZBN 2001 Freelander TD4 3dr-Gone

Thumbs Up Completely agree with you! If that the way, they can use Jaguar to make it!

I really can't see why 2wd lrx would be an issue.

I'm sure it has been mentioned else where, but Porsche "sold-out" by moving away from sports cars in order to give themselves a future. Why should LR be any different? Why berate them for the possibility of offering 2wd alongside 4wd?

Not everybody buys an SUV for 4wd. How far up the list of "must haves" is 4wd? For the average townie, I'd wager not very high compared to such things as space, style and comfort. A 2wd lrx is a good thing as it'd still look the business! Also a general question to all; What proportion of CR-V, RAV-4, x3, x1, q5, tiguan and kuga buyers ticked the 2wd option purely because running costs were cheaper?

The faux-by-four market in USA is huge, the same will develop here...

I read a press release from Phil Popham in Autocar so guessing that it is genuine. It's been a very real possibility due to the requirement to meet target Co2 emissions. I have been with the brand for many years and have a Defender at home, but I don't think it will affect the ruggedness or 'go anywhere' spirit of LR.

In the early days they weren't permanantly 4x4. There were concerns when electronics took over from diff locks, and when FL came along without a 'low' box. These issues were quickly forgotten.

At least it sounds like there will be a choice for those who do and don't need 4x4.
