Just a quick question regarding the extended warranty is it worth doing or not,just after general opinions on it please,will be collecting my car next week it's 3 year old in march so the warranty runs out,just not sure wetherto extend or not

Stuck in the same boat here.

We added it up and to have an extra four years (by a dealer not Land Rover) you would need to service it according to the schedule. That adds to about AU$8000 all up over the four years, which seems hefty. Still deciding though. It is the cool bits like the electric seats, driver aids and stuff that make the FL2 streets ahead of the competition and that stuff may well be the most expensive to replace.

Will be checking the policy documents closely to see what is covered and decide from there.

I bought an extended warranty when I bought our car for $2000.
It has just under a year of LR warranty to go then this extended warranty is for another 3 years.
I didn't think about the extra costs involved in keeping up the servicing, but I get my cars serviced as per the book anyway so I guess it doesn't matter

There is a thread on the prices LR charge for this warranty.

Basically, if anything goes wrong, you'll wish you did it, but that apart, 440 - 660 quid at the top end is a lot of cash. Personally, I'd save it, but get roadside and recovery from the AA as you wont be covered by LR.

There is also an arguement that the basic level of Freelander is more desired after 3 years from new if you dont have a warranty. After all, less things to go wrong.

All in all, remeber its an insurance policy, so you are paying in on average what it cost to repair FL2's, plus a good bit of dealer bounty and profit, so if you can afford for it to go wrong and repair it, fine.

God knows. Depends on the garage I suppose. Swings and roundabouts out of warranty though. Autos can have electrical problems and viscous coupling issues. Doesn't matter if you have got a bog standard defender or a range rover autobiography, if you are out of warranty there is always gonna be the risk of a big repair bill.

Sods law dictates that if you shell out for an extended warranty you won't need it but if you don't then you are bound to have problems.

My warranty ran out in December 2009. So far all it has cost me is a key replacement and boot switch.

I am a firm believer that if your car has had lots of things go wrong whilst it is still under warranty, then it stands to reason that it may continue to do so after.

Quick question, since I am new to Land Rovers in general, but how much did it cost to replace the key? I just replaced a Ford one for AU$200 ish. Granted, the FL2 keys are quite special but a comparative figure would be useful.

And the boot release too while you're at it?

We nearly needed a new key a few months ago, would have been about �180 (UK) inc whatever the dealer had to do to make it work with our car.
