Land Rover Owner Magazine.

I'm tempted to take out a year's subscription while I'm waiting for my Freelander 2 to arrive at the end of June.

Is there usually much in it for us, or does it have it's fair share of the lower orders of Range Rover / Disco / Defender owners whinging about Freelanders (the only potential downside to Land Rover ownership that I've found so far...)?

What are your experiences with LRO magazine?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Tigger.

2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

They do normally cover Freelander as much as any other new vehicle, however the mag is bias to the older series/def/disco/rr just because there is more to write about such as modifiying and off road outings. As someone who has both I am always catered for but if you only want Freelander stuff you may be better checking it out in the newsagents before you buy. I think you will find the other mags are the same. 2009 FL2 GS

I have rarely found any in depth information about the Freelander 2 in any of the Landrover magazines and not through lack of trying. As was said, because there is little modifying to be done it doesn't seem to be recognised. I did once see on the front cover that they were doing an article on the freelander 2 in the Landrover international mag, so I bought this one only to find that the article featured more on the food eaten on the day out, than on the car!!!

The workshop section contains very little on the FL2 (not that much on the FL1) but to be honest not too many on this forum will be geting the spanners out Shocked anyway we do have the most reliable of all the LR vehicles.

The historical section - about a quarter of the magasine, is just what it says, old guys talking whistfully about old cars.
The green lane section is usefull - if they can get a Disco3 down the track it will be no problem for the smaller better FL2.

Most of the adverts for parts are for older kit, but tyres, and service items for those out of warranty are well catered for.
The editorial/subscribers are usually well written/funny/enjoyable.
The section giving values of second hand cars is a very rough guide - but then some of us do not want to sell, so I miss this section out every month.

Subscriber for many years so possibly biased, look forward to it every month. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

A sub to it is a total waste of money if you own a modern Land Rover of any sort - anything after Disco2 that is. I used to subscribe to all of the LR mags and found a) 75% of the content was adverts, 20% articles, 5% classifieds - of the 20% there was little of interest to me even as the owner of an older Land Rover as well a a modern one. What I do now is when a new issue comes out I go to WH Smith and browse through them all, if there is something that interests me then I buy a copy - I would say these days they all so anti the modern LR's that I now buy about 2 copies a year. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

It's good to buy occasionally to see what's going on in the world of LR owners. The adverts tend to be the best part, but there are are fewer bits available for FR2 than for the other models. And most of the advertisers have websites, some of them even quite easy to navigate.

I had a copy given for Christmas, wont buy one myself, thought it very boring, nothing FL2 at all, and full of ad's for parts for the Defender ok if you want to modify it to go up Everest I suppose. I was only wrong once and thats when I thought I was but wasnt.

Thanks for the replies everyone Thumbs Up

I've got an interest in Land Rovers generally and would like to know more about green laning so I'll take the advice to go and browse LRO (along the others) each month and pick up the one that has something that looks of interest.

Never use any of their green lane info for Scotland - we have different right of access laws up here and there are no Green Lanes as such. You MUST have the land owners permission to drive on any land up here as we have no ancient rights of way that are not owned by somebody or are not also Historic Monuments How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

If you want to go green laning you shouldn't go on your own, so best thing is to join a club.

A useful tip I'd already picked up from LRO magazine, so it must have its uses Very Happy

Fortunately, I have a friend who has had the same Disco from new for over 20 years who's happy to guide me on some fairly easy green lanes to get me started.
