1961 1961 Ford 100E Popular -- 60k+ miles over 3 yrs --first car -- freedom!!
1964 1964 Vauxhall Viva HA -- 60K+ miles over 4 yrs -- drove this one through East Germany in the Cold War.
1968 1968 Vauxhall Victor 2000 Estate -- about 70k miles over 6 years (inc 2+ years in Germany)
1974 1972 Vauxhall Victor VX4/90 -- not sure about mileage but I ran this into the ground -- Fast car in its day
1979 1976 Ford Escort 1100 -- mileage about 15k per year -- I had a bit of a change of fortune at this time
1980 1977 Dolomite 1850 -- mileage about 15k per year -- Starting to recover to a decent fast cruising car
1982 1979 Dolomite Sprint 2000 --- I kept this car until about 2010 (had about 85k miles on clock when sold) - This was my favourite car of all time.
Company cars -- these were my reliable work horses -- needed to start first time and travel day and night
1984 1984 Vauxhall Astra 1300 Estate -- about 20k mile per year
1987 1987 Austin Montego 1600 -- about 22k mile per year
1990 1990 Vauxhall Cavalier SRI 2000 -- about 28k miles per year
1992 1992 Vauxhall Cavalier GLS 1600 -- about 28k miles per year
1995 1995 Vauxhall Cavalier GLS 2000 16v --- I kept this car until 2004 ** -- a surprisingly quick and frugal car
1998 1998 Vauxhall Vectra SRI 2000 -- about 30k miles in year and a bit

2004 2004 Vauxhall Signum Elite 2000 Turbo -- about 109k miles in 8 yrs-- a good family do anything car
2012 2010 FL2 SX SD Auto -- about 61k miles in 5 yrs
2017 2014 FL2 Metro SD Auto

I have enjoyed driving most of these cars over the years, and have progressed from my first car 3 speed sidevalve 36hp car (with extra heater!) to my quite luxurious auto diesel 190hp FL2 (with standard just about everything) in some 57 years.

Most importantly for me and my various jobs, they have been relatively reliable and provided transport when ever needed day or night. (They have all been regularly maintained - I owed it to them)

It looks a lot when you list them, and I haven't included my Motor caravan (now vintage) or my wife's various cars. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Ive got to ask out of sheer curiosity, what was up with the Audi Q5 4.00TDI S Line ? Jules

When we decided to change Disco Sport we looked at Volvo XC60, Mercedes GLC and BMW X3 – the guidance from my wife was Audi  - we test drove and thought ride was good .
We then bought Q5 S line – the ride is awful – when going over rough roads ( common these days) it sways from side to side- hard ride and my wife struggles with seats due to health issues finds them very difficult to adjust.
We now consider test car had air suspension.
I have several problems- car now at 9k miles from new and have had to top up oil 3 times- told this is ‘normal’ for Audi- never done this in over 25 years.
Entertainment system keeps going off ( radio, phone, sat nav) but dealer cannot find fault.
Car intermittently ‘kangaroos’ between 25/30mph for a couple of hundred yards- yesterday did it after but this time lasted a longer distance.
Car been into Audi dealer 3 times- cannot find fault!!!
Audi dealers very poor compared to LR dealer’s.
Last time car was in they asked could keep overnight so ‘Master Technician’ could take home and see if problems occur- car was in dealers 3 days but when I looked at App it had never moved. When I rang for update told technician had driven car home and no faults- when I said I had screen shots of car sat at dealers- phone went quite !!!

Just wished I had the early Fords as they are rare now and go for crazy amounts of dosh.
The majority of the earlier motors were trade ins at the dealership when I was an apprentice back in late 70s early 80s, my life seemed to change just after the defender as this was originally ex military but had been well cared for possibly a higher ranked officer? Bikes and more bikes but you can’t match a heater and no draughty stiff neck the next day.
Yes I’m happy with my upbringing in all the trials of life and so happy with my latest. - So far!🤔
