I'll be watching the used eBay item. If it's cheap I'll bash it open to learn from it. It is possible for the electronics to be a 'write once' type so it may be useless other than for inspection - I'll know better when I see inside one.

I can confirm s/hand keys can't be used or reprogrammed, they are code once only. I have tried to reprogram using IDS/SDD & it won't work, only brand new keys

The likelihood is that the memory technology is re-writeable but the software prevents re-coding for security reasons. The IC that stores any coding is unfortunately also likely to store the firmware for the fob so changing it would require first programming the firmware but with initialised coding registries. Until I see inside one, this is all based on logical assumption. I'm more interested in extending the life of our own fobs but a work-around for re-coding would be useful too - but I suspect unlikely without the source code from Landrover. |
