Is there a reason that the temperature gauge leaps up when you first switch on the car? Is it just to exercise the gauge to check working or does it signify anything like the Renaults show oil levels etc?

If battery voltage down instruments do self test. Low voltage to trigger this is not low enough to give starting problems. A good daytime run will cure this.

Land Rover have told me its a test as mine is a petrol model, instrument diagnostics at switch on. Dont think it would be due to low battery anyway as suggested as I did a 200 mile round trip yesterday and it still did it this morning and the battery voltage is spot on.
