Sorry I'll try again with that one as I think I confused it
So you are saying that a gentle set off in your car it sets of in 2nd Gear and you know this by selecting commandshift before it changes and it shows second gear OK got it Thumbs Up But what I'm saying is that I did exactly the same thing and it shows 1st.
Options:
a) The gearbox remembers how you were driving before you parked it up, and so if you've been hoofing it, it will remember this and select 1st (to continue the sporty driving)
b) It's a 2010 MY gearbox adjustment so that under normal driving 2nd gear is selected
Sorry Embarassed

If your going to offroad on a regular basis the auto is the better option - some of us are hard on clutches Whistle
The local valeter will love you soiling your shiney toy - it pays to support local buisness.

Surely the only way to set off in an auto is:
put left foot hard on brake,
select 1st in command shift,
raise revs to 1800,
when lights change to green floor accellerator and let go of brakes,
grin as coffee is split all over she who was nagging minutes earlier Mr. Green

On a more serious note, if I have been "Driving Miss Daisy" for a few miles the car, when I stop at lights stays in second, and sets off in second. If she is in second at the lights, and boot her, there is an annoying delay as she changes down to first. Hence I tend to stay in sport mode, where she changes down to first at lights. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

From a stand still, the auto gearbox _always_ starts in 1st gear.
When you slip it to Command Shift mode, for sure you are sliding it to "+", right?
This will instruct the gearbox to quickly switch to 2nd gear. This is important in order to not force you to push it again to "+", if you want the 2nd gear, for avoiding loosing grip in slippery situations, because of too much torque in 1st.
In fact, if you carefully watch the LCD when you do this, you will see a "1" displayed for a few moments and then the box changes to 2nd gear and "2" is displayed.
Try something. Start in "D", switch to command mode and slide it towards "-" (minus) and not "+". You will see that the box will remain in 1st gear, displaying "1", without feeling any backward gear change or RPM increase (like you have seen if a gear change was made from 2nd to 1st).
You can start in second gear _only_ through command shift mode.

Sorry to dissapoint, but, imagine you are driving quickly down a dual carriageway, you hold on to the speed for as long as possible hoping that the lights at the end will change to red, no luck and you brake hard to a standstill. You wait a few seconds and they change to green, the geriatric in front sets off at his usual pace, the FL2 will set off in second. Try it, your accelerating gently, feel it change into the next gear, slip into command shift, try upping another gear and she will stay stuck in 3rd, and tell you as much.
Brake gently to the lights and she will change down to 1st, and set off in 1st, same test will show she has changed into second.
Have spent an over an hour testing, and got the brakes nice and warm.
The same was true of my 06 FL1, then again, always been hard on pads.. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Then maybe I am the one who couldn't make it clear:
You can enter the Command Shift mode only by either pushing the lever to "+" or to "-", right? It is the only way.
BUT, by pushing the lever to "+" or to "-" you imediatelly instruct the box to change up or down (of course if the engine RPM and torque permit).
Otherwise you should normaly push again to "+" or "-" in order to change gear and this (a double push) is a nonsense.
When you've took it easy, the box, from first gear imediatelly switched to second gear and in the moment you've entered the Command Shift by pressing "+", as stated above, it changed to third gear.
But you can convince yourself that the box, from a standing still, is _always_ starting in first gear by leaving it to Command Shift mode. No matter in which gear you are, when you come to a complete stop you will see that the box switches to first gear.

From my experience, when driving in "D", the gearbox ALWAYS returns to 1st when coming to a standstill. But when driving with Command Shift (using + and -, and not 'sport') it only ever drops back to 2nd when standstill. I often select this as it saves fuel.

I know this because I drive a petrol, so 1st and 2nd gears are quite notibly different. In "D", the box will not be able to anticipate if you are going to accelerate slowly or foot down. It will always start at 1st.
As for the "intellgence" in the box, it only adapts to holding onto a gear for longer/shorter and the ease of downshifts.

I hear what you are saying, I believe that the intention may well be to set off in 1st.

But

Some times when I set off in "normal" mode and foot down hard, she moves off gently hesitates, changes down, then the revs pick up and away we go. Very similar to kick down. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
