Unacceptable Roof Rail Noise

There's a lot of chatter around on the subject of the FL2 roof rail system and the wind noise it makes whilst motoring.

So let's have a poll to see how prevalent this problem is or isn't.

Whistles around 60 - 70 (sometimes 50 , depending on the wind). Fingers crossed fixed soon.

So far so good. No noise at all, even at 130 kmph (80 mph).
No sunroof.

How about the difference in noise with or without roof fittings when you open the sunroof (if fitted) Question
I suspect you would have to choose between one or the other as I suspect the noise would be unbearable Shocked 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Check The Cross Bar Fit

Having just cured the problem of Ski Carrier Howl/Whistling (see sticky - all related to Cross Bar Rubber Seals) I did observe during my test procedures that it is quiet easy to improperly fix the Cross Bars [CB - LR002417] to the Roof Rails [RR] so that a large gap appears between the lower CB clamp lip and the RR. This could cause whilstling Exclamation

To check this go to the front and rear of the FL2 and look straight along the inside line of the RR where the bottom clamp of the CB sits. It should be flush with no gaps.

If there's a hole you can see light through bigger than 3/4mm then undo the locking bolt, and then with your free hand pull the lower clamp towards the RR and hold tightly flush against the RR.

Whilst still holding it tightly in position, re lock the locking bolt to 6Nm and this will bring the top part of the clamp down and at the same time secure the flush fitting bottom clamp lip.

No large holes = No Whistling Very Happy

(Oh, and do make sure the CB rubber seals are in place - that's a must Exclamation

My grandparents' roofs were fixed not by some concrete nails but by concrete ropes. According to them that was better compared to nails when big typhoons started to flush. Our country is oftentimes visited by typhoons. The roofing of my grandparents are still okay after three successive typhoons. Roofers
