Tyre Pressure Sensors

Tried to put air in one of my front tyres found that the valve was corroded with bits missing so could not put air in, went to my local tyre fitter this morning to have a new valve fitted. It turned out that the original valves were the ones with sensors, they fitted a rubber one to get me out of trouble. Surely there should have been a low tyre pressure warning on the dash but there wasn't???? So a bit confused do I need tyre pressure sensor valves or not? Wheels are the 19" HST ones. Has the monitoring been disabled?

some dealers had stocks of alloys with the sensors fitted, probably made for export to USA where they legally must have sensors. UK cars do not have a system to 'read' the sensors.
It seems some of theses stocks made it to UK dealers , and where possibly used to upgrade your car to 19" alloys ( or down-grade depending on your wheel preferences Whistle )
