Fuel Starvation Problems?

What follows has happened twice in the space of 4 days already:

I was driving normally when the car started slowing down until it finally died. Trying to restart it incurred two things - a) the engine continued turning in vain even though I had stopped pressing the ignition button. It then stopped when I pressed the button again; b) while the engine was turning a 'reduced engine performance' warning came up in the centre console.

In both instances the engine came back to life (no engine performance warning visible) after a 5 minute break and I continued on my journey as if nothing has happened.

Any ideas - fuel filter was changed 1000 miles and 4 months ago).

I do put in 2SO as per the relevant thread in the forum. Any relevance to the problem? Series 2a 88 - 1962

The problem turned out to be bad fuel or a piece of dirt stuck in the fuel filter. I spent the weekend running around burning off the diesel and then refilling from a reputable fuel supplier and all is back to normal.

I'm in Malta and we don't have supermarket fuel here. What we have are some dodgy suppliers who are rarely (if ever) monitored. By the way I had the same thing happening to my 109 (2.5 nas engine) which has a huge tolerance for fuel quality so no wonder the Freelander stopped!

I'm sticking with the state owned company's fuel from now on. Series 2a 88 - 1962
