Steel spare with speed restriction

I have a HSE with the standard 18'' alloys (235/60 R18), but have a 17'' steel spare (225/65 R17) with a 50mph speed restriction notice sticker.
Assuming that the increase in wall height on the spare (60 to 65 profile) takes the overall rolling radius back to the standard wheel size so no differential wind up - why the speed restriction ? Confused

Not sure, but are you interested in a brand new HSE 18" alloy wheel and tyre, unused?

I have managed to slightly mark one of my 19's, so I am going to get a new 19" wheel and tyre for the car and put the marked 19 in the boot. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Hi Mav71 - A tempting offer but the spare I have is brand new complete with nobbles ! and it's from the factory so I'm going to leave it thanks.
Knowing you and your quality standards your 'damaged' 19'' rim will have a scratch only visible with a magnifying glass Rolling with laughter
Hope you and your family are well.

It was a magnifying glass that made me see it! Big Cry It's only just over half an inch and you have to look to see it, but I have to put it right! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Just my thoughts on the 50mph restriction on space saver/ steel rimmed spare tyres - a recent article in Auto Express regarding tyres for SUV's placed Goodyear and Continentals at the top of the rankings following all the tests carried out. These tests included dry & wet handling, aquaplaning, braking distances wet & dry etc.
At the bottom of the rankings came makes such as Hankook which is unfortunately the make of spare supplied in my HST.
Having read this report, and then having to fit this spare with Continentals on the other three corners would make me somewhat nervous and reluctant to drive at anything near or over 50mph. If it was wet or icy I would probably try and get a recovery arranged in lieu of driving.
Somewhat surprised that LR supply spare wheels with tyres that have a performance well wide of the mark of the other tyres on the vehicle even with a recommended 50mph restriction?
My only observations of Hankook tyres has been in respect to blow outs on Caravans (steady CG) and trailers, fortunately not those belonging to me.
If I can find a Shadow Chrome 19"with a Continental or similar tyre going at a reasonable price, I will have no reservation in buying it to use as a spare.

Good comments Landieguy thanks, yes mines a Hankook as well - at least it's a 'proper spare' as I see the plan is to go for an inflation kit on new cars.
