They were on because the 110 mile motorway drive in blizzard conditions covered the lights, so decided to switch them on to improve my chances of being seen. Couple this with the fact that I didn't turn the engine off all morning therefore completely forgetting about them meant they were on all morning. I hope this satifies your questioning of them being on. No, actually, I don't. Mind your own business.
