Right gents, I should have ordered privacy glass on the windows and rear of vehicle from behind the the front sides. What is the best idea and the best people to do the job. I have read some of the previous posts but I need a little more confidence on the long term viability.  Ralph

I wouldn't bother with privacy glass. What's the point? Esepcially as the law prevents you having it for the front seats.

Privacy glass is great, keeps the sun off the kids and the dogs.......looks superb too.

However, from personal experience, the factory glass is a MUCH better finish than any aftermarket fitment. The difference being that it doesnt matter how good a job the aftermarket kit is fitted, you can still see the heated rear window lines and lines on the sides too. Its never going to be as sharp as the 'pure' factory finish.

We had aftermarket fitted to our HSE D3 and it always bugged me and it really stood out as 'not as good' when parked against a factory finished car. Also, after about 12 months our little boy swung the seatbelt buckle and it took a chip out of the film.

At the end of the day, if its a must have option and it can only be an aftermarket fit then you have to go for it............but as with the Freelander 2 we now have, It was a must that we had the factory fitted version. This limited the cars available but we got there in the end.

Its all down to personal taste and whether its a must have option. Hope that this makes some sense! Discovery Sport Hse Lux, Santorini Black, Ivory Leather Interior, Factory Privacy Glass, removable tow bar.

In my experience in the Audi/VW scene Pentagon Glass are considered one of the best in the UK, and from what I hear you wouldn't be disappointed and have never heard a bad word about them....however it does look like it would be quite a trek for you to one of their branches.

I have 3M tinting on my LR2 and Cayman S and although it is light tinting the heat rejection properties of the film are fantastic and any reputable local agent would be able to install it without too much issue. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

It makes the back ed of the car look much better. You don't get that awful oval shaped rear window that isn't in keeping with the design of the car. Compare

Looks like a commercial van when you can’t see windows. Of course everybody has different opinions about fitting or not fitting gangster glass, but I still think it looks crap on any vehicle unless you really need it, which is not the case in northern Europe  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

privacy glass is a must on the FL2 provided you dont have a black one else all you are doing is making it look like a van!  Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

i think it give privacy in the back of the car, if you leave the boot cover open, less chance of prying eyes of a chav smashing and grabbing

and the wife can sit on the back seat breast feeding too, with greater privacy  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

My son has a Ford Focus with factory fit privacy glass, apart from keeping out prying eyed he swears that in the hot weather it is condiderably cooler when it has been parked in the open. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The ONLY draw back with the privcacy glass is when you want to stick the V's up at someone behind you-they can't see you.

the way i look at it is, the FL2 is at eye level, so chav's walking past see in with out bending down to snoop

they would have to look harder to see anything, therefor drawing attension to themselve before the brick through the window.

Still i do not leave anything on sight in the car or the boot and always have the the boot cover closed wether there are things in there or not Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I agree with Andy on this. It can also arouse suspicion about the occupants and their intended activity in some situations.

My previous car had factory fitted dark tint rear windows, the only car I have had with it, but I specifically avoided it when looking for a replacement. The darkened glass detracts from the view out (assuming you drive where there is a view worth seeing ) The really dark glass also makes the car look like a van, so why not buy a van in the first place?

In our family we refer to cars with heavily tinted windows as "Ugly People Cars" - provides entertainment imagining how ugly the occupants are that they need to be hidden from the public
