Permanently removing the fender splash shields

Hi folks,

I thought about permanently removing the fender splash shields. The idea is to prevent rust in the wheel house because of trapped mud or dirt and to have more space for repair. Maybe give it a fluid film treatment from time to time.

Have anyone done this? Maybe I would do more harm than good because of stones hitting the bare metal?

Your thoughts?

Regards, Günther

Gruss Gott.

No not a good idea splash guards are there for a purpose, do what I do occasionally jet wash the area at the top of suspension strut that is where dirt builds up. 2013 FL2 XS.

Yes, you are right.
I removed all splash shields. Too much hollow spaces there, where mud could be trapped without the shields.

There were rust underneath, especially where the shields are mounted to the metal frame, but OK for the age of the car. I cleaned everything and gave it a prevention with FluidFilm and putted it all together.
