Disco sport query

Question to the knowledgeable.
My daughter is looking at a 2022 Sport. Auto, 26 k miles.
. Have read everything on sports but prefer real answers.
How big a problem is the 2l engine in a 2022 car?
Is it a good tow car?
Look forward to proper answers
Thank you. Jim A

There have been lots of well documented horror stories with the two litre ingenium engine, DPF, oil dilution, timing chain wear, mostly contributed to short journeys and DPF not fully regenerating. Whether
JLR have sorted it on the very later ones don't ? but I know I would not have one. 2013 FL2 XS.

I will not buy any car with an ingenium engine in it. Their reputation has made me decide I'll not buy a newer Landrover. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The first thing about the DS is that MY20 onwards cars are very different underneath as JLR changed the floorpan with a view towards EV capability. They also don't have a Haldex unit, instead a GKN driveline.
The DPF problems in earlier vehicles are due to them having the FL2 floorpan but JLR couldn't get the DPF close enough to the Ingenium exhaust, the result was that regeneration was difficult and oil dilution occurs when extra diesel is squirted through the engine on the exhaust stroke. This coupled with 21k mile service intervals results in wear on the timing chain. Cars after about 2019 had upgraded timing chains and if you stick to regular oil changes say less than 6k miles and regularly do long trips then all should be OK.
The real answer though is to get a petrol DS, these are hardly ever mentioned in the forums as there is no DPF to cause oil dilution, they are very smooth and very quiet engines. Mine is a MY20 P250 MHEV. Terrific car 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I think the discovery sport is made at Halewood.
I pop back here every so often to see how the FL2 crowd are getting on. Early DS cars of 2015 are now ten years old but most of the discussions on discosportforums.co.uk are about DPF issues and less about wheel bearings and mechanical stuff which means that they have fewer problems or that DS owners just don't do much DIY. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

When I was investigating a 2nd hand PHEV DS, I found that insurance seemed to be dearer than similar other makes.

Am I mistaken.

I do like the look of LR SUVs

Yes the insurance is higher because a lot of Range Rovers were getting stolen to order in big cities. This has rippled over to other JLR models. There has been a campaign by JLR to install some software security updates which require you to take the vehicle in to the dealer. I am paying £630 for rural Dorset which is about twice what my FL2 was costing. In some areas and with some insurers they decline to quote.

My son has just bought a 22 plate Porsche 911 GTS and its about the same insurance at the same address as my DS! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
