Canada 2010 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I thought the positive battery cable ran from the battery directly to the starter: https://www.jaguarparts.com/oem-parts/land...e-lr017335

But I've seen mention that the alternator is connected in parallel to this cable, as is seen here:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/121995280975

What explains the difference?

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Can't comment on the petrol version but the diesel runs from the battery to the starter motor then the alternator. All one cable with a take off for the starter in the middle. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
