2012 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black
My xs is no more.

End of an era as my 2012 xs got hit while parked up at the Mrs work. Don't think this will get repaired unfortunately.

I'm sorry to read this. It's hard having to deal with the aftermath of an accident (even a no fault one). Another Freelander off the road too 😢

I would think it will come under beyond economical repair and they will write it off .

It's a damn shame. Especially when it's someone else's fault !
Personally, I'd be asking for a "buy back" price from the insurance and get a decent bodyshop to sort it myself. But I understand most people just don't want that hassle.
Just make sure all personal items, dash cams, etc are removed before the insurance get their mitts on it.

From sitting behind a computer screen looking at a few pictures it's really easy to say this, but dare I say it, the damage doesn't actually look that bad... Providing the rear wheel hasn't been given too much of a slap and put it's geometry all out of wack, it looks mainly like rear wing damage and rear bumper needs reattaching and she'll be reet.

It's probably that I love our Freelander 2 that much that posts like these generally make me a bit sad. I know that an insurance company will take 1 look at it and condemn it to the scrap bin despite 95% of the car being in perfectly serviceable condition. Crying or Very sad

At least no one was in the car, no one was harmed and hopefully you have the other parties details so everything should go through smoothly. Smile https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

I’d be going to their insurance company to get that fixed. As long as the car was parked correctly there is no fault to you and the other persons insurance should be making good.

Thanks for the replies. The other side have admitted full liability, and were desperate to take over the claim. We had a call trying to get us to ditch our insurance company, with some veiled threats over car hie charges and the likes and we would be responsible if they were deemed excessive. Given we were provided with a new evoque at £185 a day, this did concern us greatly to the point we returned it this morning to the hire company and will manage without. We certainly cant afford any car charges regardless of who is at fault. I just wasnt to be put back as before the accident, so either car repaired, car replaced by them, or enough money to purchase a replacemnt car, My biggest concern is if there is a shortfall between what we get and replacemnt cost.

One purpose of insurance is to have things put back as they were before the bump. Bujt insurance companies will go for a write off if they think it will cost more to repair than to write off. After that they will sell the car for spares and scrap for whatever they can get and often even after paying a write off amount will make a decent profit out of it. My view is just because the insurance company want to go for a write off (because it is more profitable for them) you don't have to agree. Insist on full repairs, that is what you pay the premium for.

J

All valid points, but big firms like that go for the wear you down tactics and you have to have the stamina for it. I know it should not be like that but it is

Also if it’s repaired some one is on the hook to guarantee it for X amount of time, they would rather write it off and that be the end of it. No surprise further down the line for them.

Sad to say it is highly likely to be written off as a Cat N at best... I know others have said get it repaired - but if it is written off / bought back & then repaired, it will be marked for life. Fine if you're happy to run it until it eventually drops dead - but if you ever try to sell it / trade it you'll get stung on its value again...

Press for a good price from the insurers & buy an HSE instead

I know how I would be feeling if that was mine!
Had mine nearly ten years now so I know most of its history.
Despite the value being way down I would be gutted.

Now I don't want to seem like a circleing vulture but if it looks like it's going to the scrapyard in the sky, could I ask you to remove, if you have it, one minor piece of boot trim and then pm me.

Mine went missing after a visit to a garage.

Such a shame - Its something I dread as my car is worth far more to me than its monetary value. Jules
