what if we do not replace Overrunning Alternator Pulley

Guys your thought please

As you know, LR2 alternater has a OAP (overunning alternator pulley), its replacement part is

Schaeffler INA 535 0175 10

If you check on their website (https://vehiclelifetimesolutions.schaeffle...5350175100)

in that website, they tell you when the pulley is still good, where you can hold the pulley and rotate the internal circle freely on one direction and lock on opposite direction

however, what if we don't replace it as the job is simply to rotate the altenator, my OAP is going bad as when I remove and test using procedure in that website, it lock both direction instead of freely rotate on 1 direction when holding the pully

and it's still functioning

any thought?[/url]

I imagine it will eventually damage the tensioner pulley and increase the risk of throwing off the aux belt.

It has ben known for the aux belt then to jam in the adjacent cambelt causing that to fail resulting in catastrophic engine failure. Jules

Here is what happens if you don't replace the overdrive pulley

Good luck

Oh yeah , the I6 is different to the td4/SD4 - looks a lot more is involved than the diesel Jules

what I understand from the URL is that below picture is loose:

I was talking about the pulley which is bonded into the alternator

The fixed pulley (that you showed the picture of) is bolted to the READ and a coupler connects this pulley to the alternator which has the over drive pulley.

When the over drive feature stops working then it eventually loosens up the fixed pulley as described in the link.

If you don't replace the overdrive pulley on the alternator you will eventually get this failure and then the Alternator will not spin and therefor it will not charge the battery.

This will all make more sense when the fixed pulley fails.

Good Luck

Paul

Jules,

Thanks for the post.

Even though we are talking I6 most of the people reading are Diesel powered and it is good to remind them exactly what you did.

Well said!!!

Thanks

Paul
