Questions: drive shaft replacement

Hi all, thank you for having me on your forum Smile Greeting from Montreal!

I just bought a lovely 2010 LR2 HSE today (93,000 kms) and decided to test it's mettle on some rougher terrain.

I ended up misjudging a puddle and found myself immobilized in 30-40cms water (covered in 5cms of ice). I managed to free myself by rocking the car back and fourth, but my troubles were only getting started..

**After about 10min at 30km/h + 20min of highway speeds, I pulled into a gas station and immediately heard a horrible noise that sounded as if a chunk of ice had gotten wedged in the wheel. When I stopped to look, I saw the front front right CD axle/drive shaft dragging on the ground. Further inspection revealed the "cage" has failed.

Soo..
1) Should I be on the lookout for any other damage that would have either caused this piece to pop out or have resulted from driving 2min with it dislocated.
2) Where can I find a super detailed step-by-step for how to replace this axle? The best I have so far is this:
3) Is the hub nut indeed 52mm?

Thank you so much in advance Smile

Look at Freelander 2 front hub removal movies on youtube.

The front hub does not need to be completely removed just pulled out of the half shaft to enable removal of the old shaft.

The front shaft does not have a nut rather a large washer and bolt but you will see that

The job can be a pig to to do, the car will fight you.

Best of luck
