Front PTU

Hi, I’ve just had my rear diff replaced but unfortunately this didn’t resolve the whining noise that I thought was coming from that area, having spoken to Bell engineering they advise the problem is actually the front PTU , I have ordered one from them so I’m wondering if it’s a straight forward job to change it will be done by my local garage, I assume it’s a case of driver side drive shaft out unbolt prob shaft and then unbolt unit from car so my question really is is there room to remove it I assume the gearbox doesn’t need to come out or anything crazy like that.
any advice from anyone here that might have done this before is very much appreciated
Thanks in advance Rob.

Presumably they are supplying a coupler with the PTU also, as this will invariably want changing too.

Otherwise more or less the procedure is as you describe- gearbox stays put.

Fill with bot118+ spec oil to the threads, do not suck 100ml out having filled it as per the LR guide...

Probably the convergence (geometry) needs to be set again at the front. In addition to the PTU, the bushing between the automatic transmission and the PTU (in my case, it's number LR002746) may wear out, as well as the appropriate seals, which are under different part numbers. MY2011 TD4 S Manual
