Hi,

I have a 2008 FL2 TD4. The dash warning lights only come on once the start button is pressed.

Is this normal? I have been told (and would have expected) the dash warning lights to come on when the key fob is inserted.

Any suggestions/info?

Pretty sure mine come on with just the ignition turned on.

Dash lights only come once you’ve pressed the start button. If you don’t press the clutch/brake (manual/auto) you just turn on the systems. If you do press the clutch/brake as you press the start button you’ll start the car.
This allows you to start the systems and light the glow plugs in winter before attempting to start the car if your battery is a bit worse for wear.
Later cars don’t have a dock to put the fob into. So you have to tell the car to show some lights.

On my 2010 FL2 HSE Auto I nsert the fob, press start and wait while the car goes through the check procedure. I always do this, every time I start the car.
All the systems need to “talk” to each other.
Another wee thing i do is swap the keys every month to keep them charged up. No point having a spare key lying at home not being used. Jim A

Standard start procedure,
insert fob, press start button (without pressing brake)
observe all lights and that the correct ones go out,
THIS DELAY ALLOWS THE CONTROL MODULES TO POWER UP,
then start the engine
like a lot of cars these day the FL2 is power hungry and starting without allowing the
modules to power up and connect may mean the starter motor taking power away
from them,
this would only take a few seconds to complete. DAVE.

Dave47’s starting routine will also allow the ABS pump to pressurise the system which will cancel out the HDC and special programs not available warning that you’ll sometimes get on a very cold morning.
