Power Steering....again! - ISSUE SOLVED.....!!!

Hi all,

Freelander 2 SD4 2013 - Power steering whining only when turning right, no noise at all turning left. Had the Resevoir Replaced with new oil....same situation. Did notice some grimy oil on one of the metal pipe connections above the Pump...cleaned it off and it hasn't returned. Steering feels fine, not heavy at all.

Where do I start now? Replace Pump? Rack? Pipes?

Why does it only whine turning right?

If I change the rack or Pump is it advisable to change all pipes also?

Thanks.[/b][/i]

Problem SOLVED......AT LOW EXPENSE!

Just an update on this......

Whining steering turning right for quite some time. 2013 car so probably not the weld spatter issue as often is expected. I was told by more than one mechanic I needed new rack, pump, pipes and resevoir. Replaced Resevoir and oil to no avail. Was just about to bite the bullet and order all the parts to be shipped to Cyprus so far more expensive to repair here than the UK.....but something held me back.

Took my car for a few other bits to another recommended Mechanic who recognised it was a 'dry ball joint' ....though later he said not really a ball joint but something with the rack.....stupidly I didn't press the issue.....but hey presto whining gone.....! easily £1,500 saved.....

When you have the Whine.....it may not always be what you expect it to be....
