PAS fluid colour

Afternoon all.

Just been out doing the weekly checks and thought I'll just check the state of the PAS fluid by dipping a cable tie in it and wiping on some paper towel.

What surprised me is that the fluid was clear...

I changed the reservoir a couple of years ago using genuine LR parts and fluid, some of which I still have.

So I used my extraction pump to empty the reservoir and refilled with new fluid.

As the old fluid travelled along the pipe of the extraction pump it did have a green tint and the old and new fluid smelt the same and I've not had any power steering issues.

Just gave me a slight turn...

I used the genuine LR fluid which is green...

It was darker as it got further down the reservoir, almost like it had settled or something. The car hadn't been used for a few days...

I did the quick test today to see if the fluid was still green on both the FL2

MY 07 had an hint green/brown so will be changed, this was after a couple of years.

2

Compare that to MY14 which was only done 11 months ago.
3

4

So new either a fluid change or fluid and reservoir, my decision yet to be decided.

Ok to be sure i did the test again just at 00.00 in the dark same as the MY14.

Hint of green but turning to light brown.

so will withdraw all out of the reservoir tomorrow, top up run it until Thursday let it mix and do again the weekend.

Change the reservoir and full fluid come spring.

Now here a question the bottle that have not been open are they still usable even though they have an expiry date on them ?

I didn't even know PSF had an expiry date.

Done mine in June. It was black, its a diesel isn't it? The car has done 193k, so it is probably original. Strange thong is, one can use Dexron three in emergency. It goes in all other cars in Jaguars lineup.

When was it last done ? maybe best if you changed the reservoir at the same time, mine is only being topped up until the spring then new reservoir will be fitted.
