Steering rack failed twice

Hello, our steering rack has failed twice in 2 years. The first time it was replaced with pump and reservoir. Recently it’s gone again, is that just bad luck or could something else be wrong?
Thank you,
John

Was it a genuine rack? if it was replaced by a garage it should be under warranty? 2013 FL2 XS.

Did they use the correct fluid ?

Older landrovers used ATF (usually a red colour) , not the FL2 (CHF 202, usually clear or greenish). Jules

It was done at a Landrover main dealer so I’m assuming all genuine parts and correct fluid

Yes we are Rommel. It’s going back tomorrow but I’m worried there is spending more than bad luck at play

What colour is your fluid ?

What has actually gone wrong with the rack ?

The steeering is pretty simple - just a mechanical pump, reservoir with a bulit -in filter and some pipes and hoses. Jules

From my experiences with garages and main dealers, assume nothing. Jules

Main Dealers Evil or Very Mad

I once took my Disco 2 in to a main dealer for some simple warranty work.

3 miles down the road I found it suddenly wouldnt turn left properly - very stiff . They had not re-attached the plastic under tray and now it was crushed by the steering arm which restriced its movement.

Got FA in the way of an apology - so never went there again.

I had months of hassle sorting a simple cam cover oil leak on my Fiests ST3 at the Ford Main Dealers. Eventually they agreed with me that the first repair to the cam cover seal had been inadequate and removing the gearbox , replacing the crankshaft oil seal and breaking an engine mount in the process had been totally unnecessary.

Guess what, Ive not been there since either. Jules
