Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor

Good Evening All,

Hopefully a very quick one,

I've got to replace an exhaust gas temp sensor, which on the code reader is bank 1 sensor 3. I believe this is the one located just before the DPF and is quite accessible.

Would anyone be able to confirm this location?

I've noticed there are more sensors behind the engine and are slightly less accessible, figures that sensor number 3 would be further back on the vehicle.

Yes as you say it's just before the DPF, You might need Mapp Gas to heat it before removing, Socket size is I think 14mm but check

Thank you for your reply,

I have ordered a sensor from LRparts.net, should be here fairly soon.

I have done some digging with an OBD reader and found the sensor that reads a constant 100°C in the diagnostics. Since then I have unplugged the sensor I mentioned before, just before the DPF. The diagnostics still reads 100°C whilst unplugged, now I understand it will read 100°C until it warms up (provided it was working), but I figured if it was unplugged it would read N/A? Hopefully this doesn't mean I'm looking at the wrong sensor.

You wouldn't happen to know if it would still read 100°C despite being unplugged?

The 100 deg C is the default temperature for the open loop, The true temperature of the sensor is not fed back to the ECU

When the temperature goes over the default it becomes a closed loop feeding the true temperature back to the ECU

Assuming the system is working correctly of course

Using the OBD reader gives the values from the ECU. These may be read as voltage or temperature depending on the information from the ECU

if you wish to read the true sensor output readings you need to probe the output wire but it will show the voltage not the temperature. The ECU will turn this information to Temperature as read on your reader.
