My i6 sometimes has trouble starting when hot, hot whether doesn't make much difference, can take up to 8 times to start, any ideas? Common sense isn't very common.

Had that on both Peugeot 504 & Seat Ibiza, both turned out the radiator thermostat was not working.

Without cutting your fingers off, if the radiator is cool it may be the reason, not removing enough heat from the engine. Petrol is evaporating before if gets into the cylinder.

Is radiator fan working.

In the meantime, open the bonnet to get good air flow. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

There are some threads/posts by @p_gill refrencing this once he left the fob docked.

Personally, I've not had this issue to date.

Cam sensor maybe get it checked out, don't if you can do same test you can on a Rover 75, if it's not stating after the engine is hot remove the cam sensor, stick it in the freezer for 5 mins, put it back on the car does the car start if so then the cam sensor is suspect.

Or carry a spare with you and replace if car starts ok again cam is suspect, i carry cam, crank, and MAP sensors with me in each car anyways.

For my LR2 if I hot soak it with the key in the dock

For example getting some fuel

Then it will have difficulty starting and sometimes it starts and then stalls

Don’t leave the key in the dock with the engine off is my advice

Ps my daughter had a problem and I taught her how to shift to neutral with the engine off and it started the engine and has worked fine ever since. If the ECU doesn’t get a signal for Park or Neutral then it won’t start the engine.
