Gear lever switch

Hello,
I seem to have a problem that I haven't heard of before, The switch on the auto gear lever that stops you inadvertently moving from drive to reverse, or vice-versa now remains in the "in" position, as in, it doesn't spring back when you remove your finger so it is possible to accidently move the lever through the whole range.
Anybody seen this before and, dare I ask, is it an easy fix if so?
Thanks.

^^^ as above.
I found the quickest way to replace it was to hold the switch in as far as I could and get a flat blade screw driver in the top and pop the switch out that way. No need to dismantle the whole assembly. IIRC I paid £4-5 off of Ebay for my replacement spring. The lever needs to be in the Drive position to get the best access to fit the spring.
