Selecting 5th. & 6th.

I have just encountered an issue with selecting 5 & 6. When I go from 4th. the gear leaver moves right across to the position where if I pulled back on the lever I would get reverse.
The stupid this is that I am sure I have had this happen before but for the life of me I can't remember what I did to fix it--I'm sure it wasn't anything major. Can someone refresh my soggy memory please?

There is a solenoid or some component below the gear lever that stops this happening. I know because on a previous car the service department inadvertently left is disconnected after a recall.

Not at all pleasant to drive like that. driving on the right side

Hi, Yes, there is a solenoid that prevents it going all the way over so as you can't get reverse above something like 5 MPH, but when this happened before I know I didn't change this, but whatever I did worked. It was about 5 years ago now and i ca't remember !! Old Age !!!!

Hi All, Well, all sorted for the moment at least. I saw a post on here with a similar issue and the guy suggested to half remove and then refit, the plastic connector to the solenoid. A bit fiddly as it's down the side of the centre tunnel. I did this and Hey Presto! Done. ---Still don't remember doing this last time but right now, who cares !!
