Weird clutch

It seems that problems with my freelander are never ending. Smile

Every since I have owned this car (almost three years), my clutch has been firm, a little stiff even. I have gotten used to it, but every since someone else drives my car, they usually comment on how stiff the clutch is. In recent days I have noticed that my pedal has gotten softer (very close to what my moms disco sport 2.2d manual clutch feels like). The bite point is still high, clutch engages and disengages as it should, no obvious leaks and dot4 level in brake reservoir is good. Today I also noticed with opened window, that whenever I press the clutch from 1st to 2nd year, you can clearly hear a sound that I would describe as a quiet chihuahua bark from underneath.

Any ideas? Could this be related to heat that we are experiencing with +28C degrees? Should i start to consider clutch replacement?

it could be the slave cylinder on its way out and the noise could be the pressure plate not releasing completely and rubbing when you change gear.?

what happens when you depress the clutch when stationary in neutral ? Any odd change in sound or vibrations? Jules

Sorry for not responding, got a lot on my plate, but the clutch is still soft. It COULD be pressure plate, but there are no weird sounds when in stationary and slowly engaging clutch or disengaging. The sound is not always there, but it happens sometimes when changing from 1st to second gear. Clutch bite point is high, fluid is not dropping, so i have decided that I will just keep on driving the car as it is. If something fails, I will update this thread. Smile
