United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver
i6 oil

Thought I'd buy a litre of oil today. Handbook states 0W-30 meeting ACEA A5 specification. Went to the dealers to see if they stocked it as a spare but was told that they do not; they said "to get Castrol". (Looked on the Castrol website and for the i6 they state "refer to main dealer"!)

Went off to Halfords but the Castrol Edge 0W-30 is only to A4 spec. Finally tracked down on Volvo's website what looks like the required product: Castrol SLX Professional Longtec 0W-30. Does anyone know where to get this please? Castrol list Halfords and National Tyre as Castrol stockists but neither have it. There's a guy selling it on ebay at a half-decent price, but so far that's all I can find and I'm not sure I want to trust my engine oil purchases to ebay.

Thanks

Drew

Thanks npinks. I did have a look at his website but it does not list SLX Longtec as being stocked, but, as you suggest I'll PM him and see what he says.

Australia 2009 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Santorini Black

Probably not much use to you in the UK, but here in Australia the specified 0W-30 oil is not available on a retail basis and, as far as I have been able to find out, Land Rover dealers do not use it in servicing. My supplying dealership in Melbourne carried out the first service on my Freelander (6000miles in Australia) and used Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 oil. Land Rover Australia say that this oil is OK and cannot explain why Land Rover UK specify an oil that we can't get. In any event, that is what the dealer has used and LR OK'd, so I wouldn't expect any warranty problems. Odd though.

DT, you may use any Motor oil which complies with ACEA A 5. If Castrol is not available you may safely use MOBIL 1 0W40 (or 5W40, if available). In Australia different motor oils are required due to the extreme climatic conditions (heat).
BP-oil Visco 5000 FE 5W30 (ACEA A5) is safe, also TOTAL Quartz Future 9000 5W30 (ACEA A5). Aral Super Syn 0W40 is also one of the very good oils.
