If the diff oil has never been changed (so-called "sealed for life") then I think yes.

115k miles on the original. Oil changed once. So far so good 🤞 Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Most of my driving is cruising on the motorway and similar on open rural roads. As I understand it, the rear diff is unloaded and freewheeling in these conditions, so apart from churning (degrading?) the oil, the wear should be minimal. So it does look like oil condition could be the problem.

It's not the clambering under the car that's the problem, you can clamber under at any age, it's the getting back up and straightening the back that's the problem my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I replaced my diff once and the original was rebuilt and is sitting in storage. If I ever have to use it, I'll tap a drain plug before install. I had to get a rebuilt one from the UK because they wanted my core plus almost $2000 (+13% tax) Cdn for another rebuilt one. I believe the original lasted 170,000 kms with two oil changes done by me since it was bought used in 2018 December. I now do the oil changes once a year on the replacement rebuild. Easy job.. |

I think mine is on original diff, and with the added drain plug the oil change is now easy, 103,000

That's 4 diffs, including the one it left the factory with. I believe mine is now on its 3rd, the second one seized because there was no oil in it, it was in there long. Mine has also had replacement PTU, which I believe was fitted at the same time as the seized diff. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone. Audi A5 convertible, my daily driver. 1972 Hillman Avenger GT, the project. |

Do we know which is the best diff kit to get to refurbish the diff, ie bearings cogs etc, and are they different from an Auto to manual, with what bearings and cogs are used inside the diff.

Not how I wrote it the last two diffs were replacements for the original one making three diffs in total You now have me anxiously worried about an imminent fourth replacement and thinking of PTUs replacement |
