Notice yesterday my near side dipped head light bulb was not working, expecting it just to be the bulb purchased a new one. This morning removed the head light to find the bulb ok but the plug connecting to the bulb burnt away. Now with only a few days until its MOT what to do? then spotted that the bulb pins looked to be about the correct size for 1/8” spade connectors, tried one and it was a nice tight fit.
So cut the wires to the faulty plug soldered the three wires 2 + 1 to two spade connectors and insulated with heat shrink tubing. Fitted the new bulb also. Working now until i can source a proper plug, link please if anybody knows a supplier.

Strange the plug would melt like that but the bulb be ok. Nice work around though good luck with the test.

I believe there are others who have had the same problem.
I suspect higher wattage bulbs put more strain on an already weak area and cause the plug to melt.
There are ceramic versions available I believe.
Try ebay presumably for a source of such things.

I suspect the burning issue is dependent on how many bulbs have been replaced over the plug's lifetime. These high power connectors only have a life of a set number of insertions before the spring pressure begins to reduce, causing higher resistance and overheating.
Fitting spade connectors will overcome this issue, and are easily replaced when they fail. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
