a while back the M42 was closed diverting traffic at the M6 interchange area onto the M6 Toll. There was no charge, barriers up etc at the first toll booth which is about 2 miles onto the toll road at the A38 Jcn. Guessing this only applied to the 1st booth as it was the most sensible diversionary route.

The dart charge is the least of your costs for that trip! Central France to Yorkshire and back is £1000 in fuel, tolls, channel tunnel etc. I fly whenever possible, even with airport parking it is around a quarter of the cost, and about half the time door to door. |

Pathetic. Sydney, Darwin, Perth, Sydney, 4000km (2485 miles) per leg for the shortest most pointless route. Australia's 'Longest Shortcut ' Lenora (near Kalgoorlie) to Winton, Queensland, 2700km. I think that you are missing the point, there is fun in the driving, I fly to the likes of Australia and Africa for a living, flying is not fun. Cost wise the fuel is around £780, the tunnel £500, tolls £200 - split between the three of us, beats paying for flights and a decent 4x4 hire car. Did a bit of driving in Australia a few years ago, Sydney to Cairns, but I didn’t try to do it in a couple of days, it’s a similar distance. Everyone is different and should do what they enjoy. I can see the other point, if on a budget or limited holidays then time and money are a consideration. If someone has the time and the money then enjoy the drive. |

I was simply stating that the dart charge is around 0.25% of the cost of my shorter trip. Enjoy your holiday. |
