I have a 2014 freelander2 sd4 and every month or so I get a battery alarm low indication, is this common, the battery isn't old

It is pretty normal they are battery hungry mine is a couple of year old Varta I put it on a conditioning charge last week as it doesn’t get long runs. If I hadn’t it wouldn’t have started after 3 days sitting in this frosty weather.

Thanks for the info, I'm not alone then, I have a numax smart charger that I plug in and it seems to take about 1 hr to take it up to full charge, so will just keep doing that

Ive just installed the 3rd battery on our 2014 SD4 (60K miles), replacing the 4.5 year old Varta F19.

Battery was clearly failing - low voltage warnings and dropping to 7v during starting from 12.4v after charging overnight. Jules

The warning shows every time but according to dealer that's the norm. Had new battery tested and it's fine. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Mine was showing the low battery warning when it was about 6 years old so I replaced it. Brand new battery and it still showed the same warning. 3 years on it still does and other that that appears fine. I didn't update yhe software to tell it had a new battery fitted, wonder if that is relevant? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I didn't touch the software when I changed my battery last & have not seen the battery warning since. I do switch off start/stop every time I get in though (I don't think this is a "thing" on the Autos though?). 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

The 'Low Voltage/Poor Start' problem on the FL2 with any apparently 'Tested - Good' battery occurs so often on this site that I feel guilty that I am yet again reposting my on experiences. You can see that I tried to struggle on and avoid getting a new battery, but I was wrong and a new on solved all the problems.

There is no doubt in my mind that, if you want to have a trouble-free life with the FL2, you need to have the biggest, best 12v battery that you can afford.

In addition to poor starting, the FL2 will start to experience random faults as the power supplies to the electronics become insufficient.

Note Nodge's posts regarding battery size in this stream

PS Since fitting the new bigger battery I have had zero problems, and my Lithium Battery Booster has only been used a couple of times for an emergency charge of my smartphone.

From experience, the Battery Control Module needs a little time to adapt to the New Battery and then increases the time car electrics stay on in the 'Accessory Mode'. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

It continues to amaze me that people who buy (what was) an expensive, accessory laden, systems dependant car, put off spending the same as the cost of a couple of tanks of fuel on a new battery, struggling on with battery boosters and battery chargers, never really sure if the car will start when they want it to without having to lift the bonnet. Just budget for a new battery every 4 or 5 years!

+1 for going up a battery size - I fitted a YBX9115 Yuasa AGM Start Stop Car Battery 12V 80Ah in April 21, no issues so far but we'll see in a year or so! 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

I replaced my battery with a Yuasa HSB110 Silver 12V last year in early January, It had lost a third of it's CCA so replaced it with a Varta Silver Dynamic 110 AGM Car Battery a few weeks ago. Changing batteries more often than I change my socks.
