Not just a coating, but sufficient for it to run out when you lift the main plastic pipe up, if that makes sense? Freelander 1 3.2

I can't speak for a 2013 model, but that sounds normal for my 2010 one. It's been like this all the time I've had it and apart from the mess down the back of the engine, it doesn't seem to have caused me any problems. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

That’s encouraging, think I’ll just clean the pipes out before refitting & see how it goes Freelander 1 3.2

I wouldn’t bother cleaning anything other than the jointing surfaces. The system vents from the cam cover to the intake duct and oil is to be expected there. Have a look at Alex Pescaru’s post on the 3rd page of the discussion on oil catch cans. |

As said, it's completely normal for a turbo diesel to have oil in the intake pipes.

2014 SD4 exactly the same, a dribble of oil in the intercooler pipes which runs out if you have a pipe removed. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Think I’m just being a bit picky since I’m having to refit turbo & intercooler pipes. Happy to avoid the expense of a new pcv valve based on all your comments. Freelander 1 3.2

You really should do the filter every time. These filters clog readily, which causes the bypass to open, resulting in unfiltered oil going round the engine. This is particularly an issue with diesel engines, as the oils contain lots of detergents which keep the dirt in suspension. If the filter is full, the dirt gets circulated with the engine oil, causing accelerated bearing wear. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Standard service interval is 15000 miles. I've done mine every 10000 since I've had it, 90000 miles now which i think is ample. Changing oil every 6000 is probably overkill but certainly won't hurt it. 👍 Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
